Here's a copy of an email I received from a new Distributor (5-12-08) - this relates to her very first order pickup at the Post Office:

Hi Janet

I received the order and sold 4 at the post office when I picked them up to the woman who works there.   SOOO!  I’ve attached another order as I think I’m going to run out really quick and would like to push them before Christmas.
Let me know when your receive this and I’ll send the money.

Cheers
Nel

Thought that might get you thinking in terms of making the decision to become a Distributor!

Where are you based? If you are thinking of getting into distributing African Butterfly hair combs NOW is the time to start! Why? There are a number of distributors wanting to start up and naturally we are trying to avoid overlapping areas for Distributors. You don't really want to be distributing in an area that is already spoken for do you. Get your area now! Where were you thinking of marketing the combs? At a market, online, friends, family, school moms, book club .....?

Where did you hear about African Butterfly?  Do you have some of your own combs already?

Your stock orders would be through African Butterfly (Australia/New Zealand) and it will be delivered to your door.  In circumstances where your stock request is large or for specific items that don't have large stockholding there will be an order from the South African factory. This can take up to approximately 10 days.  (South African Customs can sometimes hold things up).

The combs are delivered separate from the packaging as they take up less space.  The brochures, backing cards and packets are packed separately for you to put together (there is a cost for the marketing material).  It is better for people to look at the combs and try without the packaging.  The “test drive” sells the comb.

Remember can never tell who your customers are going to be - I have sold a number of the combs to mature ladies with very short hair as gifts for their daughters and nieces.  A great sales tool is a mannequin's head with a wig wearing a comb of your choice.  I did the hair of the "model" up in a twist with a comb and found that it drew the attention of the market traffic much more than just having combs displayed.  If you are interested in going this way this is a link to the Wig Shop in Melbourne who manufacturers the wigs - I have both FW081 and FW090. They will post directly to you anywhere in Australia. You can purchase a high quality fiberglass mannequin heads from Mannequin Hire and Sales - listed on the site as HEADS-FEM_HEAD. Again the company will post to you.

Remember that sometimes people are reluctant to ask how to use something for fear of looking stupid. Ask them if they would like a demonstration and most people will say yes.  Once they see what the comb does, they are curious and once they have tried the comb for themselves they are sold.  Customers are surprised at how comfortable it is and some are a little shy in trying the comb for themselves.  Then all at once they are shocked at how simple it is to use! The comb sells itself.

How many combs were you thinking of ordering and what brands (e.g. Dupla, Beada, Dalena).  I have found that the brown combs are faster sellers than the black or beige. In terms of the brands it is basically the customer’s choice and you can never tell if they are going to go for a more earthy look or the bling.  I have a repeat customer in Perth who purchases the more expensive bling combs as she competes in professional ballroom dancing.  There are also markets for the more expensive combs with wedding shops where brides want to wear something different.

One important thing to remember is that this is not a "get rich quick scheme". Marketing African Butterfly takes effort and planning. It is a good and lucrative business but it's not going to make you a millionaire overnight.

I will leave you with this information and look forward to hearing from you soon - info@africanbutterfly.com.au - just ask for the Wholesale Pricing list.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK (more on the Testimonial Page):

I brought one from the royal show in Perth, which I wear all the time. I love It.  Regards. Rosemaree, WA.

I love these combs - I received one as a gift from a friend and have worn it out! Lisa W, USA.

Hi Janet, I have recently visited South Africa and bought 3 combs for myself and my daughters. However, I didn't actually use them until I got back to Australia and have been wearing it ever since. So have my daughters! They are fabulous. So easy to use and very comfortable. I've had so many comments about the comb from just about everyone who notices it in my hair. Thanks. Rosemary (Breeza, NSW)

Thanks Janet I got them. They are great and I gave your contact to someone else. Cindi, Coogee, Australia.
