Instructions on Using African Butterfly

Using African Butterfly combs is simple. Follow the step by step instructions listed below:

Fold hair in a twist at the back of your head.  A bun does not work as well as a twist as the bun tends to pop through the middle of the beading.

Hold with one hand.  In the other hand insert your fingers through the elastics close to the comb spine. (see next image)

Slide one comb, the round side snug against your head, behind your style.

Keep your fingers through the comb.

Your comb hand now holds the style through the beads and leaves the other hand free.

Pull the other comb over your style, turn it and push it in firmly behind the style on the other side.

Once you have pushed the second comb in you can release both hands. Now put your thumbs underneath each of the combs with your fingers on top and offset the combs so that you catch the teeth at the top of the comb (see interlocking images below). (You might have to separate the combs slightly for this movement).

Now twist the combs so that you catch the teeth at the bottom. To complete your style just push both combs together - be sure not to force the combs together as this will feel uncomfortable.

The image alongside shows the finished style. The style should feel firm without any pulling or discomfort.

INTERLOCKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR AFRICAN BUTTERFLY COMBS

For the purpose of clear instruction I have used two different colour combs.

Hold combs at an angle to one another (i.e. offset) and interlock the teeth at the top.

While twisting combs push whole set of combs together.

You are pushing the bottom comb up to link with the teeth of the top comb.

Push the combs together to complete the interlocking. This process might take a couple of tries to get it right - but please persevere with it.

To test if you have interlocked the combs try and gently pull them apart - if they are firm then you have interlocked them correctly.

If you purchased a comb from somewhere else and it does not interlock as shown you might not have purchased an original AFRICAN BUTTERFLY comb. You can check if you have an original African Butterfly by looking on the back of the spine for the Patent number. Only original AFRICAN BUTTERFLY combs are sold from this website.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK (more on the Testimonial Page):

I brought one from the royal show in Perth, which I wear all the time. I love It.  Regards. Rosemaree, WA.

I love these combs - I received one as a gift from a friend and have worn it out! Lisa W, USA.

Hi Janet, I have recently visited South Africa and bought 3 combs for myself and my daughters. However, I didn't actually use them until I got back to Australia and have been wearing it ever since. So have my daughters! They are fabulous. So easy to use and very comfortable. I've had so many comments about the comb from just about everyone who notices it in my hair. Thanks. Rosemary (Breeza, NSW)

Thanks Janet I got them. They are great and I gave your contact to someone else. Cindi, Coogee, Australia.
